Dragon Hall

Day 4, by Kameron, Project Leader, age 7

I went to Dragon Hall today. First we had a a look at a model of the Hall. The real Hall is 600 years old and built my Mr Toppes.
We went underground, then we saw treasure chests which were locked . It was really cold, then we went to the next room underground and I wondered why there was a door! Then we went back up to Dragon Hall where we saw the real dragon. All the other 13 dragons had been thrown away in the river, the dragons have something to do with Saint George we think. Before we chose the winner we looked at all the other stuff. I smelt the smelling stuff, the first one smelt like shampoo, the second one of fish.

Day3. The Castle by Zac, age 7.

First we got into groups and walked to the Castle. When we arrived at the Castle the first thing we did was go to the keep room. The keep room, also called the great hall had different objects in, which were related to the castle and its history. I thought the most mysterious object was the ring. The ring was found under the castle floor and we don't know who's it is, thats why it is so mysterious.
After that we all went up the stairs and looked at the kitchen, the stains were very freaky. After a while we looked at the toilets which were very weird. After we got into our project groups we picked an object, my group chose the well because it had changed a lot and it had water and water is very very important.
Then we went downstairs and had a vote on the best thing.

(You'll have to wait and see what they chose to represent the Castle in their trail)....

Drum Roll Please....

After brainstorming on Tuesday the kids have worked with teacher Ms Harben to decide on a name for their adventure and their project....'The Secret 12: Histories and Mysteries'. Good choice. Looking forward to next Monday at the Castle for our first site visit. What object will they chose?
Day 2. Objects and Buildings

By Orion, Project Leader. Age 8

On the second day on the project (Tuesday 17th April) we had lots of fun.
First we thought of names for our project which we haven't quite decided yet!
Secondly we got some items and tried to guess what they were, it took a while and some people guessed the same thing!
We looked at an old cooker that was 800 years old and something that generates heat in a lap top. We looked around the Lakenham Primary School building and chose our favourite thing or object to talk about.

The first day of the project by project leader Roja, age 7...

Firstly we learnt each others names by playing a game. Then we talked about the 12 buildings we are going to visit. Also we discussed what our favourite buildings were and what we know about them.

After that we got in to groups of 3 and chose one of the buildings, we wrote down facts and questions about things we'd like to know.

Next we watched a video about all the 12 places we are going to visit. Some of the buildings we are going to visit are: Norwich Castle, the Forum and the Great Hospital.

And so we begin

This is the one and only post I'll put up. From today the children take over.

Yesterday we started out on our adventure. 12 children from Lakenham Primary School are now leading the project, alongside LivingNorwich director Roxanne Matthews, Castle Museum staff Katrina Siliprandi, Kathy Moore and John Simpson Wedge, top city guide Rod Spokes and staff at Norwich 12 venues. They will discover the wonders of 1000 years of Norwich history, unearthing choice objects and architectural features that tell the story best. Its no small task. They will visit 12 Norwich buildings representing the city's long history since Norman times. Through their eyes we'll see the story of the city in new and exciting ways, and help other children and families engage in the city's buildings, their secrets and their histories.  Together they will produce a trail which will be available at the Forum by the end of July 2012, so you can follow in their footsteps. We hope you're excited. We are!

Watch this space for the children's pictures, comments and commentaries on the project.

Thanks to Heart (Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust) for funding the project through Shaping24, without whom it would not be possible.

We'll keep you posted
